John Nicholson set up his family run business which has served Wingerworth and the surrounding areas for 30 years

Nicholson family funeral service was founded in the mid 1980s by John and Linda, having been medically retired from the ambulance service John had worked part time for a local funeral director as a driver bearer so upon his retirement he had the idea of serving his local community as the village funeral director, which he established at the family home in a converted out building.  John’s wife Linda worked as a nurse whilst also helping out in the New family business.

The village of Wingerworth has grown over the years and so has Nicholson family funeral service. In the late nineties we moved to the Langer Lane site where we established a new funeral home accompanied by a flower shop run by Linda. After the millennium the flower shop was closed down and a new family home was built alongside the funeral home so the site was manned 365 days a year.

The millennium also saw the next generation of family to enter the business, Alison who took over Linda’s roll of looking after female clients was joined a few years later by Roger and together Roger and Alison now run Nicholson family funeral service with the same principals and values that John and Linda originally established the business upon .
